Peanuts

Synonymous with baseball games, circus elephants, cocktail snacks and, of course, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, peanuts are ever popular in the American culture.  Peanuts belong to the single plant family, Leguminosae.  Legumes are edible seeds enclosed in pods and they provide the best source of concentrated protein in the plant kingdom.
