The cheerful blossoms proclaim each year that winter is over and spring is really here. Dogwoods are a popular landscape tree and thrive in condions that are similar to the woodland habitat. They prefer a generous amount of moist, well-drained soil and like some afternoon shade. George Washinton and Thomas Jefferson planted dogwoods around their homes in the 1700's.
