Bittersweet
The fruits are poisonous to humans but are favorites of birds. It recalls crisp autumn weather and trips to the country where it is found festooning shrubs or scrambling over old fences and stonewalls.

The Acorn is the harbinger of new life. Acorns were used extensively as a food source for native North American Indians, and also roasted as a coffee substitute. It is also important for local wildlife populations. The Acorn fruit has been recognized in country medicine for relieving chilblains and frostbite.
Our acorn and oak necklace is made of handpatinaed bronze and freshwater pearls.
Blackcurrant
Blackcurrant is a small shrub growing to 1 to 2 meters tall. The fruit is an edible berry, very dark purple to black in colour. They’re a favorite in jellies, syrups, cordials and in cooking for sauces and desserts.

Barberry
Berberis thunbergii
Barberries or Pepperidge bushes are deciduous, evergreen shrubs native to the temperate subtropical regions of Europe and the Americas. The berries are edible, rich in Vitamin C and are an important food for many small birds. They are very dense, spiny shrubs used as ornamental hedges and other barriers.

The Paper Birch, slender and elegant, with its intensely white bark, is visible even in the dark of night. Native Americans, as well as early colonists and European herbalists, all agreed that Birch leaves were therapeutic. Because of their singular beauty, they have been designated National Memorial Trees for Mothers and as such were planted on the Capitol grounds in Washington, DC.

Bleeding Heart
Dicentra spectabilis
The Bleeding Heart is a perennial herbaceious plant. The name comes from the hear-shaped pendulous flowers which have a longer inner petal that extends below the "heart". It is a popular ornamental plant for flower gardens in temperate climates.

The Cranberry is a firm, sour, edible, red berry. It is the fruit of certain species of the genus Vaccinium that grow in bogs and marshes.

The gingko family dates back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Gingko biloba native to China has been considered effective in the treatment of asthma and other allergic reactions.

The genus, Ilex, includes species of trees, shrubs and climbers with evergreen or deciduous foliage and inconspicuous flowers. The berries are an important food source for birds and, in winter, their spiny leaves make them an ideal home for shelter.

The Cornflower is a small annual flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, native to Europe. It flowers from June until August. Flanders Field in Belgium, best know for the red poppy, is also home to the Blue Cornflower. In France it is the symbol of the 11th of November 1918 armistice and, as such, a common symbol for veterans (especially the front line French soldier).

Boxwood is an attractive evergreen that can reach heights of thirty or more feet. The slow growing dwarf variety is close clipped (a custom that began in Roman times) to make decorative edgings. Our original model was made from cuttings taken at George Washington's Mount Vernon. A portion of the sales of this design goes to the support of George Washington's Mount Vernon.
