String of Hearts

String of Hearts is a flowering plant that is native to South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. It is easily grown as a houseplant. It is a beautiful evergreen succulent trailing vine that grows to 2 to 5 cm in height but spreads to reach up to 2 to 4 meters in length. When exposed to sufficient light the heart shaped leaves are a rich, deep green color.

String of Hearts is a flowering plant that hummingbirds are attracted to if the plants are hung outside during the summer.

Native Americans, as well as early colonists and European herbalists, all agreed that Birch leaves were therapeutic. Because of their singular beauty, they have been designated National Memorial Trees for Mothers and as such were planted on the Capitol grounds in Washington, DC.

Boxwood is an attractive evergreen that can reach heights of thirty or more feet. The slow growing dwarf variety is close clipped (a custom that began in Roman times) to make decorative edgings. Our original model was made from cuttings taken at George Washington's Mount Vernon. A portion of the sales of this design goes to the support of George Washington's Mount Vernon.

Bleeding Heart

The Bleeding Heart is a perennial herbaceious plant.  The name comes from the hear-shaped pendulous flowers which have a longer inner petal that extends below the "heart".  It is a popular ornamental plant for flower gardens in temperate climates.

The Pussy Willow’s soft silky buds find their name catkin from the Dutch diminutive of cat, in reference to its resemblance to a kitten’s tail. The tree is a deciduous North American variety.

Available in oxidized bronze, sterling silver or 14kt. gold with freshwater pearls, in sterling silver with pink chalcedony, in bronze with hessonite stones, in 14kt. gold with diamonds and, in 14kt. gold with lemon citrine.

The Acorn is the harbinger of new life. Acorns were used extensively as a food source for native North American Indians, and also roasted as a coffee substitute. It is also important for local wildlife populations. The Acorn fruit has been recognized in country medicine for relieving chilblains and frostbite.

Our acorn and oak necklace is made of handpatinaed bronze and freshwater pearls.

These annuals prefer cool weather and mature early. The "peas" inside the pod are considered berries by botanists. Common folklore regarding peas is that if you count the number of peas in a pod the crop will fail. Pennsylvanian Germans always planted peas under the sign of Gemini, hoping to get two for one and double pods.

During early summer this noble climber from China, produces fragrant flowers in mauve to deep lilac in long pendulous racemes.

In Irish sagas, plants have magical powers. The elder, rowan and thorn are still planted around houses to keep off witches. And, in Ireland and the Isle of Man, the thorn is thought to be the resort of faeries, and they are probably representatives of the older tree spirits and gods of groves and forests.

This flower traditionally graces christenings, birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. According to tradition, a few pips should be planted in the newlywed's garden; thereafter the perennial blooming of the flowers is said to signify the couple's renewed devotion. The flower has also been credited with heightening romance: In ancient times, its delicate perfume was considered to be a love potion and its essential oil was so valuable it was hidden away in vessels of pure silver & gold.

Our lily of the valley line is cast in bronze. The stems are hand patinaed and the flowers have a silver finish with freshwater pearls inside.

Gingko

The gingko family dates back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Gingko biloba native to China has been considered effective in the treatment of asthma and other allergic reactions.

Dogwood

Cornus florida

The cheerful blossoms proclaim each year that winter is over and spring is really here.  Dogwoods are a popular landscape tree and thrive in condions that are similar to the woodland habitat.  They prefer a generous amount of moist, well-drained soil and like some afternoon shade.  George Washinton and Thomas Jefferson planted dogwoods around their homes in the 1700's.

Barberry

Berberis thunbergii

Barberries or Pepperidge bushes are deciduous, evergreen shrubs native to the temperate subtropical regions of Europe and the Americas.  The berries are edible, rich in Vitamin C and are an important food for many small birds.  They are very dense, spiny shrubs used as ornamental hedges and other barriers.

Inspired by the Impressionist artist Claude Monet (1840-1926), this collection reflects the beauty, music and poetry of his memorable work of art, Water Lilies (1906). The designs capture the water lilies as they float on the pale and dark hues of the pond at Giverny.
